A graduate of the apprentice program on Chico Basin Ranch, Amy manages the MP Ranch with her husband Nick.

The last couple of days have been busy preparing everything for next week, when we will be weaning all the steer and bull calves from the main cow herd.  We’ve been hauling hay, fixing fence, building gates, and making sure the corrals are in order to accommodate such a large herd. Pictured above is everything Michael needs to hang gates and make other corral repairs. Tomorrow, we start moving the cows towards headquarters from West Chico, the largest pasture on the southern most boundary of the ranch.

Hi, Kay- Thanks for the comment! Not sure exactly how many there will be, but probably around 100. Stay posted for more pictures and posts on the calves as we near calving season.

Hi Savannah, thanks for your question! If you haven’t already see them, there are two other sites: http://www.chicobasinranch.com, and http://www.ranch.org. These are the two ranches that the daily journal is coming from. If you’d like more information, feel free to email me at duke@chicobasinranch.com. I am one of the managers and am happy to talk with you. Please keep reading and let us know what you think!
